Epoxy vs. Polyurea vs. Polyaspartic: What's the Difference?
Standard epoxy is a two-part system with excellent hardness and adhesion, but it has limitations in UV stability (yellows outdoors) and can soften in extreme heat โ a real concern for OKC garages in July.
Polyurea is a next-generation polymer that cures much faster than epoxy (1โ4 hours vs. 24+ hours), offers superior flexibility, and has much better low-temperature application range. It doesn't yellow or become brittle. The downside: it's more expensive and requires professional equipment to apply correctly.
Polyaspartic is a subtype of polyurea specifically engineered for floor coatings. It combines the best of epoxy (adhesion, hardness) with polyurea's speed and UV stability. It's what we use as our standard clear topcoat on all our installs โ and it's available as a stand-alone system for premium performance.
For OKC homeowners who want the absolute best long-term performance, especially in attached garages that see extreme summer heat, a full polyaspartic system is worth the extra cost.
